Making supermodel PETRA NEMKOVA relive her tsunami hell for a new US TV special was one of the toughest things newswoman DIANE SAWYER has ever had to do.

Sawyer landed the exclusive interview with a visibly shaken Nemkova for her PRIMETIME LIVE news show, which airs tomorrow (09MAR05), and she admits the emotional encounter left her fully aware of what the recovering Czech stunner went through to survive.

Nemkova revealed to Sawyer that she clung to a tree top, while floating debris crashed into her, smashing her pelvis, and then had to watch helpless as children fought for their last breaths just out of her reach.

The newswoman says, "I have never heard a story like this in my life.

"When the wave takes her it starts breaking her pelvic bone. It will break every bone in her pelvis... She finally grabs on to the top of a tree and (she's there) for eight hours, haemorrhaging blood with her bones being broken repeatedly by the wood and the garbage hitting her. It's like a torture you couldn't imagine.

"There were so many people floating by, most of them children, and they were screaming to her to help them and she's holding onto to tree but she can't move from the waist down... She's trying to get to them.

"And then suddenly there's just a silence, and after that there are only bodies.

"She still has nightmares of deafening noise and water rolling in, rolling in, rolling in."
