Mos Def Targets Bush + Bono In Hard-Hitting Charity Single

Rapper-turned-actor MOS DEF has become the first star to record a new benefit single for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

The HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY star wrote KATRINA KLAP, inspired by TV footage he has seen in the wake of the August (05) storm that devastated parts of southeast America.

The track samples New Orleans, Louisiana native JUVENILE's NOLIA CLAP.

On Katrina Klap, Mos Def takes President GEORGE W BUSH and other leaders to task for reacting slowly to the tragedy.

He raps, "Mr President, about that cash/Policy for handling the ni**as and trash/You better off on crack, dead or in jail, or with a gun in Iraq."

The rapper also blasts rocker and humanitarian BONO, who he accuses of turning his back on the Hurricane Katrina tragedy after spending so much time and effort fighting poverty and erasing Third World debt.

He raps, "It's enough to make you holler out/Like where the f**k is Sir Bono and his famous friends now?/Don't get it twisted, man, I dig U2/But if you ain't about the ghetto, than f**k you too/Who cares about rock and roll when babies can't eat food?"

The track has been released to select DJs and is available on the Internet. No official release details are available.

What, exactly was Bono and U2 and all those who support the ONE/DATA movement supposed to do? The band did contribute two songs to separate benefit shows. See, it's like this Senior DEF: Last I checked, while however horrific and tragic the hurricane has been to the Gulf region (which it has been - I don't want to detract from it) there's this other problem that has, for the most (or is that Mos...tee hee) part been largely ignored. For well over a decade, maybe two, there's been this horrific and tragic event going on in Africa where people die of disease, starvation, lack of medicine. Every day in Africa it kills 6,300 people (source: DATA.ORG) It's called AIDS and while not called a pandemic, it really is. It leaves many orphans in its wake. Families shattered and broken. Over and over and over again. Imagine what you've just seen in New Orleans and have it repeat, over and over and over again for YEARS. Babies who can't eat food. A place where the ghettos you reference would be 100 times better than the current state of where they live today. Africa has been Bono's focus for some time and while both the AIDS pandemic and the great floods in the Gulf are VERY tragic, for you, Mos Def...to even begin to be a critic of Bono's efforts to save Africa is very shallow. Instead of shooting your mouth off and looking like a complete fool, you really should see what YOU"VE contributed to the world at large. No Mos, I think Bono does care about the ghetto, he's just chosen to fix one that is quite larger and older than what your referencing in your "healing" charity single. No doubt this will be an instant hit for you Mos and will at least make the 3 Minutes Of Fame mark before becoming just another faded, jaded, compassionate tribute song. Next time, try speaking from your mouth, not your other orifice. You'll find it helps you truly speak healing, compassionate words in times of trial and tribulation and not dribbling leakage you're spouting in this "charity single".

Mos Def is an idiot. What does he expect Bono to do, fly down to New Orleans and declare a state of emergency? It's easy for him to sit back and criticize other people’s work. Then again I didn't see him at Live 8 or do much of anything for Africa, which he constantly points out as his "motherland". Mos Def, stick to writing your crappy idea of what rap music should be, nobody's listening to it anyway.
