Movie legend MARILYN MONROE turned down the chance to bed lusty star JOAN CRAWFORD - because the man-eating actress just wasn't her type.

According to biographer MATTHEW SMITH, who has just released controversial tome MARILYN'S LAST WORDS: HER SECRET TAPES AND MYSTERIOUS DEATH, Crawford made a move on Monroe but was rejected.

But Smith is at pains to point out that Monroe had no problem indulging in same sex romps, but had no wish to go to bed with the then-fading MILDRED PIERCE star.

On one explosive tape, Marilyn says, "I told her straight out I didn't much enjoy doing it with a woman.

"After I turned her down, she became spiteful."
