The 1997 deaths of British royal DIANA, PRINCESS OF WALES and INXS singer MICHAEL HUTCHENCE plunged KYLIE MINOGUE into the darkest time of her life.

Minogue was due to name her eponymous seventh album IMPOSSIBLE PRINCESS, but changed the title at the last minute following Diana's fatal car crash in Paris, France (31AUG97).

And the singer, who has lived in the UK for years, was dealt a further blow when her former lover Hutchence hanged himself in November of that year (97).

Minogue says, "Princess Diana died, and the whole country was in mourning. It was a dark time. Michael died. I broke up with my boyfriend. It really wasn't that pleasant.

"There were murmurings and write-offs, as there had been from the beginning. Everyone was just in an absolute panic.

"But I still don't think I spiralled into a terrible depression. And I never thought, 'That's it.' I always thought there was more work to be done.

"I just didn't know who I was any more."
