Tough-guy actor MICHAEL MADSEN is desperate to bag a part on THE SOPRANOS, after talks to include him in the Mafioso drama fizzled out.

The RESERVOIR DOGS screen villain was approached by casting director GEORGIANNE WALKEN for a role, but he hasn't heard anything since.

He says, "It's just so hard for me to understand. I actually called (lead star) JAMES GANDOLFINI last year (02), and I said, 'I'd like to do a couple of episodes for you guys. It would be a lot of fun!' He agreed with me!

"But nothing ever happened. I just don't get it. Somebody in that Sopranos group has got it in for me. I stopped watching the show because it's just too painful."
