Movie-maker SAM MENDES dubbed PETER SARSGAARD 'YODA' on the set of his new war movie JARHEAD - because the actor was always playing chess on his own.

The SHATTERED GLASS star refused to mix with castmates JAMIE FOXX and JAKE GYLLENHAAL when the cameras stopped rolling and quickly became a confidante for the young stars of the film, who needed advice.

Sarsgaard recalls, "I went back to my hotel room, played internet chess and watched soccer on TV, where the other guys all hung out together.

"Sam jokes that I spent the whole movie wearing headphones, listening to music. He called me 'Yoda' because I would just sit in this chair and an actor would come up and ask me for advice and he said I would say something Yoda-ish and go back into my headphones."
