Melanie C - Mel C Prepared To Pay For Her Own Singles

MELANIE C plans to personally fund the release of her next solo single, after reportedly being ditched by her record label VIRGIN.

According to reports in the British media, Virgin dropped the former SPICE GIRL last week (ends2JAN04) after her latest single, double A-side MELT/YEH YEH YEH - the third from her 2003 album REASON - barely scraped into the top 30 of the British charts.

But Mel is so determined to go ahead with the planned release of a fourth single - title track REASON - she is prepared to cover production costs herself.

A source says, "There have been words between Mel and Virgin and both are furious with each other.

"Mel's annoyed they wouldn't release the title track Reason as she thinks it's the best song on the album and would have sold well.

"When an artist is axed the label usually retains the rights as it's paid for all the production costs. But in this case they won't stand in the way of Mel if she re-records it because they think she's wasting her money."
