Punk svengali MALCOLM McLAREN was so horrified when the SEX PISTOLS reunited in 1996, he compares the historic event to an "an act of necrophilia".

McLaren, who managed the ANARCHY IN THE UK icons in the late 1970s, believes surviving members JOHN LYDON, STEVE JONES, GLEN MATLOCK and PAUL COOK did not have the right to resurrect the band just to make quick money.

The 60-year-old insists the Sex Pistols were a product of their time and could not be resurrected 20 years later without appearing almost comical.

He says, "(The reunion was) cartoon, unreal, stupid, sad. Almost blasphemous. No - an act on necrophilia.

"They turned it into a commodity it never was. It was always an idea - and not owned by them. They couldn't write a song - it took JAMIE READ, it took me, it took all of '68, the timing and the temperature, it took all of that to make those songs.

"It was just not the Sex Pistols."
