British actor SIR IAN MCKELLEN was insecure and frightened before becoming a Hollywood star. Despite forging a successful and highly acclaimed theatre career before gracing the silver screen, the Oscar-nominee credits Hollywood with furnishing him with a new found sense of confidence. MCKellen, who made his major movie debut in the lead role in 1998's APT PUPIL says, "I was a frightened little gay boy. I wasn't ready to be a big anything. I've got self-confidence now. Nothing frightens me."
