British actress NATASHA McELHONE is dreading the reaction from German cinema-goers to her pronunciation in the movie LADIES IN LAVENDER.
McElhone, who acted alongside GEORGE CLOONEY in SOLARIS, agreed to play a German woman in her latest film despite not speaking a word of the language, nor knowing when to emphasise sounds.
She says, "I was playing a German and I don't speak the language, so I learnt it in chunks phonetically.
"They kept reassuring me, but what about when German audiences get to see it?
"Once I said something which was supposed to be totally straightforward, like 'I'd like to hug you', but the emphasis that I gave it meant that it came out as 'I'd like to breast feed you'."
