COLDPLAY frontman CHRIS MARTIN confused music fans at Japan's Fuji Rock festival last month (29JUL05), by accidentally bellowing a fond farewell in their mother tongue just moments into the band's set.
The British singer was determined to greet his audience in their language, but although he was convinced he'd learned the correct way to say "hello", he had in fact dutifully memorised the word "sayonara" - which means "goodbye".
Fortunately, the fact the CLOCKS rockers continued to play a bevy of hits reassured the crowd that the linguistically challenged stars were not attempting an early escape .
