COLDPLAY frontman CHRIS MARTIN has promised the band's next album will surprise fans - because it's influenced by hip-hop star JAY-Z and experimental German outfit KRAFTWERK.

And the CLOCKS singer - who grew up in rural Devon, England - jokes it's always been his ambition to become a gangster rapper.

Martin says, "I've been listening to Jay-Z and Kraftwerk a lot while trying to get some inspiration for the last few songs on the album.

"I think every white guy growing up in Devon dreams of being able to rap."
