COLDPLAY frontman CHRIS MARTIN fears playing new songs live because the pressure to present them in the right way is immense.

The IN MY PLACE rocker is famed for being a perfectionist, but he admits the high expectations of the public as they prepare to release their delayed third album have caused him to panic about the quality of their new songs.

He says, "Being in Coldplay and coming back now is very different to what it was three years ago. There's a lot more eyes on us so you don't feel like you have any time to sort anything out properly."

The British band played tracks from their new disc X+Y during shows in Los Angeles last week (12MAR05), but Martin, who is married to Hollywood actress GWYNETH PALTROW, was less than relaxed.

He explains, "I know there's some good songs on there... I remember feeling like this on the last record, terrified. You know you've got the songs but live is a different thing because you have to put it all together."
