Screen star MARIEL HEMINGWAY is vowing to stay in control of her life - even though five members of her family have committed suicide.

The MANHATTAN star lost her legendary grandfather ERNEST HEMINGWAY to a self-inflicted gunshot 35 years ago, and most recently her sister MARGAUX died in 1996 after overdosing on pills.

But the actress insists she doesn't suffer with the manic depression that has plagued her family for decades.

She says, "The family is notorious for having highs and lows, but I've addressed the problem through the environment. I don't believe in the so-called Hemingway curse.

"I keep drugs and alcohol out of my life and keep my blood sugar stable. I'm trying to stay balanced."
