OSCAR-nominated character actor WILLIAM H MACY has defended his decision to star in 1997 movie AIR FORCE ONE - because it gave him the opportunity to play an action hero.
The eccentric star insists critics who wrote savage reviews of the film failed to appreciate that it featured Hollywood legend HARRISON FORD, had classic film quotes and enabled Macy to fulfil his dream of playing a courageous protagonist.
Macy complains, "I do protest. That was one of those big stupid movies I love to watch. Also, I got to act with Harrison Ford who is so good at that stuff. I also got to walk around ever so bad with a sub-machine gun and I got to save the President.
"My good friend (award-winning playwright) DAVID MAMET loves to quote one of my lines from Air Force One where I say, 'Let me save him; he's the President for God's sake!' David quotes that endlessly and howls with laughter."
