THE LIBERTINES frontman CARL BARAT has had a metal plate fitted behind his eyeball after smashing his head against a sink in a drunken accident.

The DON'T LOOK BACK INTO THE SUN star suffered the gruesome injury whilst partying with bandmate PETE DOHERTY in Wales, following their reunion following Doherty's time in jail - but didn't realise the extent of the problem until he woke up the next morning.

He was rushed to hospital after waking and discovering bloodstained sheets, and underwent an emergency operation to repair his fractured cheekbone and damaged tearduct.

Barat is still struggling to recover his full vision.

He jokes on the band's website BABYSHAMBLES.COM, "Sex symbol in an eye patch? Buccaneers indeed."
