JOHN LEGUIZAMO - LEGUIZAMO INJURED IN CAR SMASH

Actor JOHN LEGUIZAMO sustained severe head injuries while filming in Ecuador when the local head of police smashed into the vehicle he was travelling in.

The MOULIN ROUGE! star was working on CRONICAS when the accident happened last year (04) - his driver was later arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving even though the police chief was clearly at fault.

The 40-year-old Colombian told gossip website PAGESIX.COM, "It was a really bad accident. I hurt my head pretty badly. They had to arrest someone, but they couldn't arrest the police chief so they arrested my driver - who did nothing wrong.

"Thankfully it was the last day of shooting."

Leguizamo is currently promoting the film at the SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL in Park City, Utah.
