KORN star JONATHAN DAVIS was secretly happy when bandmate BRIAN `HEAD' WELCH quit the group to dedicate his life to Christianity because he knew his heart wasn't in it.

Frontman Davis felt Welch wasn't as committed to the heavy rock group as he should have been for years before he quit - and was relieved when he moved on.

Davis says, "For a lot of years, Head wasn't into it... All of us noticed. He was just getting drunk.

"The only time we would see him was when he was onstage. The rest of the time, he'd be locked up on the bus or in his hotel room, and he wouldn't come out. He just didn't want to be alive."

And the rock singer knew Welch was a perfect recruit for Christianity months before Welch announced he was born again.

He adds, "That's the way they recruit people. When people are at their most vulnerable. they're like, `Hey, there is this guy named JESUS, and he'll make everything good.'"
