KIEFER SUTHERLAND - KIEFER SPURRED ON BY SNUB

KIEFER SUTHERLAND was determined to become a Hollywood star after missing out on an acting role with his famous father early in his career.

M*A*S*H star DONALD SUTHERLAND remembers how angry and disappointed Kiefer was when he was rejected for a role in MAX DUGAN RETURNS in 1983.

He says, "He ran away from his home from his mum and he ran to me when he was 16. I was making Max Dugan Returns and there's a character who says a few lines and throws a ball, who plays my son.

"The director took Kiefer into his trailer and kept him there for an hour auditioning him and said, 'No, your son is not an actor and there's no point.'

"He hired this kid who is absolutely not an actor and doesn't look like me. It really so offended Kiefer that it gave him an excuse to do what he'd always wanted to do - you know, 'I'll show 'em.'"
