LATEST: NICOLE KIDMAN and RUSSELL CROWE's new film EUCALYPTUS has been indefinitely postponed as producers attempt to rework the script.
The project, which is being shot in New South Wales, Australia, was initially delayed when torrential rain lashed the set, but now it has been postponed, leaving Kidman and Crowe free to sign up for other movies.
FOX SEARCHLIGHT PICTURES President PETER RICE says, "After consulting with all the creative elements involved in Eucalyptus, we have collectively agreed that the screenplay is not where we need it to be. For that reason, we are postponing the production."
Writer/director JOCELYN MOORHOUSE adds, "Despite everyone's efforts during recent days and weeks, the script of Eucalyptus needs more work."
But a set source tells Australian movie website MOVIEHOLE.NET the script problems are being used to hide bigger concerns about one of the film's stars.
The insider says, "That press release Fox Searchlight is issuing is garbage. It's a certain actor's fault this project fell apart. There were no script problems, just ego problems."
The gossip site also reports that Crowe himself has expressed an interest in directing the film if rescheduled dates can be agreed.
