Bollywood star SALMAN KHAN has been sentenced to a year behind bars after being found guilty of poaching a sacred animal in Rajasthan, India.
The screen actor killed two blackbucks, a protected species of antelope, in the western state in 1998. He plans to appeal against the conviction.
Khan has also been fined 5000 rupees ($111/GBP63) for the offence.
The community in Rajasthan were enraged when the incident occurred, as they worship the species - and Khan subsequently endured a seven-year trial in the Rajasthani town of Jodhpur.
He became so fed up, he told the court, "The court can hang me. I am tired of such lengthy proceedings."
Khan is also facing trial over an alleged hit-and-run incident in Mumbai, India, in 2002. Khan allegedly drove into a group of homeless people on a pavement before crashing into a bakery.
Khan - who has dated actress and former Miss World AISHWARYA RAI - faces 10 charges, including causing death by dangerous driving. He has pleaded not guilty on all counts.
