British band KEANE are relieved they're finally allowing themselves to bask in the success of their debut album HOPES AND FEARS - because they were initially overcome with insecurities about their "ugly" looks.

The group's LP has attracted rave reviews and mega sales, but the trio have only just learned how to relax into their new status as celebrities and celebrated musicians.

Singer TOM CHAPLIN says, "I'm loving it. Back at the beginning of the year, I was really worried. I was convinced that we'd be the ugliest, geekiest band, and that terrified.

"But at the risk of sounding mildly conceited, I think we've scrubbed up pretty well. We make great music, and we look like a proper band."
