Hollywood actress KATHY BAKER was so distraught when as a child she first learned how low paid American teachers were, she wrote to the President to urge him to increase their salaries.

The COLD MOUNTAIN actress, 53, admits she was highly concerned about her teachers as a child, and decided to make it her personal mission to bolster their paypackets.

She says, "When I was eight-years-old I wrote a letter the President of the United States, because, since it's a law to be in school, I figured teachers got paid a lot of money. My dad told me they didn't and I was shocked.

"I won't even tell you who the president was then... I think it was ABRAHAM LINCOLN!"
