KANYE WEST has been given a belated Christmas gift by the editors of American newspaper USA Today - his latest album LATE REGISTRATION has been named the best of 2005.

The rapper's release beat out PAPER TIGERS' CAESARS and GET LIFTED by JOHN LEGEND to land the top spot in the publication's end-of-year list.

Meanwhile, MARIAH CAREY was named the paper's Commercial Comeback of the year and Brit KATE BUSH claimed the Comeback Anytime honour.

Also named on the USA Today list were MADONNA (Scorned Diva Reborn), GORILLAZ's FEEL GOOD INC (Single Of The Year), U2 (Tour Of The Year) and BONO (Hero Of The Year).

On the dishonour list: CRAZY FROG's AXEL F (Dumbest Song), FIONA APPLE (Overrated Comeback) and HEFTY FINE by BLOODHOUND GANG (Unplayable Anywhere - Album).
