KANYE WEST is convinced God is responsible for giving him one of the biggest hits of 2005 - GOLD DIGGER - because he wrote the track for someone else.

The cocky rapper admits the track was originally set to be recorded by LUDACRIS protege SHAWNNA but she had problems clearing the RAY CHARLES sample in the tune.

So it was left for West, himself, to record the track - and score a monster hit.

He says, "I made that song for someone else... God hands me these records."

West claimed a Best Solo Rap Performance Grammy for Gold Digger at last night's (08FEB08) music awards.
