JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE - JUSTIN SWEEPS THE BOARD AT MTV EMAS

It was JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE's night at the MTV EUROPE MUSIC AWARDS yesterday (06NOV03), as the pop hunk picked up three awards.

Winning Best Album, Best Male and Best Pop, Timberlake became progressively more emotional as the evening went on.

To resounding screams and cheers from Edinburgh's LEITH OCEAN TERMINAL, Justin said, "It just keeps getting better and better. Tonight does not suck for me. This is a good night.

"I'm glad I won this (Best Pop) award and not somebody else - that could have got nasty!"

Rap superstar EMINEM won the hip-hop award for the fifth year running, and event host CHRISTINA AGUILERA picked up her own award for Best Female.

She said, "Everybody that grew up with me and supported me and my risk-taking, whatever I do, just thank you so much to everybody who made this possible."

British rockers THE DARKNESS picked up the MTV2 UK award and COLDPLAY won the Best Rock act - but gave their pre-recorded acceptance speech from inside a lift, as singer CHRIS MARTIN was attending the premiere of fiancee GWYNETH PALTROW's movie SYLVIA.

But there were a few surprising results too: little-known Icelandic band SIGUR ROS won the Best Video accolade and PANJABI MC beat out more established acts like THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS and MOBY to win the Best Dance award.

Christina Aguilera lived up to her promise to make the event "DIRRTY" - by wearing various raunchy outfits, even including a cardboard cut-out basque at one point.

PINK also went against her usual tomboy style by performing her hit song TROUBLE in a sexy red PVC catsuit, complete with blond wig and devil's tail.
