ANGELINA JOLIE and BRAD PITT have broken the hearts of the people of the Italian town of Cernobbio, after they failed to confirm rumours by marrying there on Saturday (18MAR06). The couple were widely reported to marry in a ceremony at friend GEORGE CLOONEY's Lake Como villa nearby. Police in Cernobbio were put on alert and a private security company tightened security around Clooney's home. Cernobbio mayor SIMONA SALADINI was even told to be on standby for possible official functions over the weekend. Locals also embraced the 'event' by dressing as the couple and staging mock-weddings on the banks of Lake Como. But the couple stayed away. Saladini's spokesman GIUSEPPE SALVONI said after the no-show on Saturday, "We are at the end of our rope. Let's say we are packing it in."
