Jennifer's Nightmare New Year
JENNIFER CONNELLY's New Year wedding anniversary celebrations turned into a real nightmare - her home flooded, husband PAUL BETTANY fell ill and their Scottish break turned into a depressing affair.
The movie star couple wed on New Year's Day last year (01JAN03) and decided to celebrate with friends in a Scottish castle - with disastrous results.
She says, "It was one catastrophe after another. We get off the plane and turn on our cellphones and it rings and it's the alarm company saying, 'Just so you know we've dispatched the fire company to your house.'
"So there's this kind of drama while we wait to see what happened. It's a false alarm, but I call a friend to say, 'Can you just check?' and she calls me back and says, 'It wasn't a fire but your house is flooded.'
"We thought we'll stick it out (in Scotland), it'll dry out. It's our freaking anniversary!
"We get to the hotel. It's a two-and-a-half hour drive and we're miserable and the concierge says, 'We have to apologise. It's the only room that was left. It's a bit small.' Small doesn't begin... There's no heat and the bathroom's down the hall and it's bubblegum pink. It's raining and we're depressed.
"Paul gets food poisoning on New Year's Eve (31DEC03). It was very sexy and romantic - he was being ill all night!
"We decided to call it off and come home. We got up at six in the morning to drive to the airport in Glasgow and we had a flat tyre. I'm not making it up!"
