Rapper-turned-fashion mogul JAY-Z has always had style - although hopes childhood pictures of him wearing a Hawaiian shirt are never published.
The 99 PROBLEMS hitmaker, who is the co-founder behind the ROCAWEAR fashion company, admits he had to be stylish as a kid because he was always ruining new clothes.
He recalls, "One time I was playing football on the grass. I had on my new Pro-Keds (trainers).
"I ripped my knee and it bled on my sneakers, and they were white. My brother liked to paint, so he airbrushed them blue. I wasn't personalising them. I had to do it. I wasn't getting a new pair, so we made the best with what we had.
"The kids were like, 'Yo, where did you get those?'"
Jay-Z has simple advise for style wannabes who want to kit out their closet on a budget: "Some old-school kicks (trainers), a mean sweatsuit and a good pair of jeans. You can rock the same jeans a lot - just change the top."
