Director JIM JARMUSCH used new movie BROKEN FLOWERS to combat the Hollywood ageism which many leading female stars have spoken out against.

The GHOST DOG: WAY OF THE SAMURAI film-maker was determined to cast a host of mature actresses in interesting roles alongside comic veteran BILL MURRAY, because they are rarely offered challenging parts by Hollywood studios.

Jarmusch cast SHARON STONE, JESSICA LANGE, TILDA SWINTON, JULIE DELPY and FRANCES CONROY in the tale of lost love.

He says, "What drove me, was a desire to work with female actors of a certain age - say between 40 and 55 - who are regarded as too old in the world of commercial cinema, who don't really get any interesting roles."
