GEORGE CLOONEY continues to impress locals in Laglio, Italy, where he has a lakeside retreat - by helping grandmothers with their shopping.

The movie star has won many local friends by attempting to learn the language and helping people he finds struggling as he cycles around his Italian spread, which overlooks Lake Como - even if his neighbours don't know who he is.

Local GIORDANO SAIBENE was amazed when his grandmother confessed she'd had an early morning encounter with the hunk as she juggled groceries.

Saibene says, "This man in a cap and dark glasses stopped and asked if he could help. She thought he was an American tourist.

"She doesn't watch TV because she's in bed by eight o'clock. She has hens and chicks to tend to."
