THE INTERPRETER - INTERPRETER TOPS THE WORLD

Political thriller THE INTERPRETER has topped the American and international box office charts - becoming the first film of 2005 to achieve the feat.

The film, which stars NICOLE KIDMAN and SEAN PENN and was directed by SIDNEY POLLACK, took $22.8 million (GBP11.9 million) its first weekend (23/24APR05) taking it straight to the top. It has topped the international chart since its release on 15 April (05).

Kidman stars as an African interpreter who overhears a plot to kill the leader of her country and Penn plays the secret agent who investigates.
