THE PRETENDERS frontwoman CHRISSIE HYNDE forced herself to overcome her painful shyness so she could perform with the veteran band in the late 1970s. The 2000 MILES hitmaker was petrified of singing on stage and disliked her voice being taped, but knew she had to put her fears aside if she wanted to be a star. Hynde says, "I was terrified of playing live. And I also hated the sound of my voice on record. "But I overcame that because I wanted to be in a band. It was painful but the fun outweighed the pain."
