THE PRETENDERS star CHRISSIE HYNDE is constantly tempted to retire, because she hates the celebrity aspect of being a musician. The DON'T GET ME WRONG rocker insists she is only interested in performing great music and hates being forced to promote her discs. She says, "I can't stand promoting myself. I don't enjoy selling myself and I don't like being recognised in public. "All I want to do is play in a band. The only spotlight I'm comfortable with is onstage, the rest of it I can do without. "I've come very close to retiring recently, partly because I don't like being asked about the past. "I've promised myself I won't get burned up though. I don't want to end up hating myself."
