THE EAGLES star DON HENLEY is fighting to save a lake near his hometown of Linden, Texas, after learning local industries have turned the body of water into a polluted mess.

Henley joined environmentalists at Caddo Lake earlier this week (beg02FEB04) to publicise a new protest staged to call attention to pollution which is destroying the life of the water and everything in it.

As founder of the CADDO LAKE INSTITUTE, Henley has already poured over $2 million (GBP1.17 million) into the project.

Henley says, "Caddo is significant as an ecological treasure regardless of my childhood attachment to it."

The lake is not only the home to more than 400 species of plants and animals, but has the largest variety of fish in a Texas body of water.

He adds, "This lake is always under threat from exploitation. It's a common treasure that belongs to everybody."
