TRAVIS frontman FRAN HEALY has slammed "greedy" Britons, after witnessing the poverty and disease in the Darfur region of Sudan.

The DRIFTWOOD star sang on BAND AID 20's version of 1984 charity hit DO THEY KNOW IT'S CHRISTMAS? to raise money for the impoverished people of Darfur, and visited the region earlier this month (DEC04) to see how the money is being spent.

But he was so amazed by the resilience and high spirits of the poverty stricken inhabitants, he's ashamed of the petty complaints and superficial goals of the Western world.

Healy complains, "The mad thing is that people are so strong. They are so resilient. You go into these places with water on board and these people don't have any. I feel pure guilt that I can't help them.

"It makes me think of the fact that Britons are in the pursuit of the car and the nice house, the food on the table and the holiday once a year. We've maybe lost the one thing money can't buy, which is a smile and a happy face.

"It's humiliating for be to come here in comparison to Britain where we are always moaning about stupid things, like the weather. It's disgusting. These people don't have a pot to p**s in."
