ETHAN HAWKE - HAWKE'S FACES SOUL-SEARCHING QUESTIONS

Hollywood actor ETHAN HAWKE has labelled last year (03) was the most challenging of his life - following his split from UMA THURMAN.

The TRAINING DAY star recalls how his experiences was "one dark night of the soul" - akin to the questions he asked himself when his first child MAYA RAY was born.

Hawke says, "Falling in love and having a baby made me feel the whole world changed.

"It brought up issues of faith and love, why would I want to be a parent, what am I living for, what's worth dying for - all that interesting stuff.

"At the time I thought it was my defining moment, my dark night of the soul.

"I realise that's not true. It was one dark night of the soul.

"Then you hit another one."
