Actor ETHAN HAWKE will always remember his high school soccer coach's advice after he landed his first Hollywood role at 12-years-old.
The GATTACA actor, 32, tells NEW YORK magazine of his childhood coach's words when he announced he wanted to quit the team following his casting at an open call audition for the film THE EXPLORERS in 1985.
Hawke says, "I always hear my old football coach talking in my head. 'Two hundred per cent, Hawke. Ordinary effort, ordinary result.'
"The coach gave me a big speech.
"I was like, 'I'm going to be in a major motion picture, bro, I'm going to quit this freshman football team.
"He might be right, in hindsight."
