Movie star GWYNETH PALTROW feared she was spiraling into a bleak depression before her new husband CHRIS MARTIN "saved" her.

The SYLVIA actress was introduced to the kind-hearted COLDPLAY frontman just weeks after her beloved father BRUCE died suddenly in October 2002.

And Gwyneth, 31 - who is pregnant with 26-year-old Martin's baby - is convinced that she would have been unable to cope with her grief if CLOCKS singer Martin hadn't given her such strong emotional support.

She says, "It was Heaven-sent I met Chris, because he really saved me.

"I was despondent and crying all the time. I could imagine it being very boring for someone - just the same old story all the time. Hopefully, I'm more fun now."
