Hollywood superstar GWYNETH PALTROW's more regular residence in Britain's capital has been explained - she hates being in New York since her father BRUCE's death.

The SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE beauty has been spending more time in London with her British lover CHRIS MARTIN of COLDPLAY than in her native America, and Paltrow confesses she feels sad being in the East Coast metropolis.

She tells VOGUE magazine, "I love New York, and I'll always be a New York girl at heart - but it's a very different place without my father around to meet me and have coffee with. Not that I drink coffee.

"I do miss home. I feel very connected to American girlishness.

"When something as terrible as your father dying happens, you start redefining everything. I feel the finiteness of life - I'm still grieving pretty heavily - but I realize that we are all going to die, so I want to be with people that I love, and I want to travel."

Bruce, 58, died of throat cancer last October (02), and Gwyneth has spent most of the year since then taking time off from her acting career. Her new film SYLVIA, about the life of tragic poet SYLVIA PLATH, opens on 17 October (03).
