TERRY GILLIAM - GILLIAM POISED TO GET BACK TO WORK ON QUIXOTE DISASTER

LATEST: Maverick director TERRY GILLIAM has confirmed reports he is on the verge of finally getting his THE MAN WHO KILLED DON QUIXOTE movie back off the ground.

The 64-year-old's labour of love turned into one of the biggest movie disasters of all time in 2000, when soaring costs led to financiers pulling all funding out of the picture, which was to be the most expensive European film ever made.

The unmaking of the movie then became hit documentary LOST IN LA MANCHA, which showed Gilliam and his star JOHNNY DEPP despairing as one disaster after another hit the set.

But Gilliam is now poised to step into the breach, and Depp has confirmed he will appear again too.

Speaking at a press conference in Prague, Czech Republic, to promote his latest film THE BROTHERS GRIMM, Gilliam said, "There is a possibility now, for the first time, that we might get the script of Don Quixote back.

"If we can get the film out of the hands of the lawyers, then that will be my next project. The presence of Johnny Depp is secured."

He added, "My best film is the one I have not made yet. When I actually make films, I am always disappointed. So my favourite film at the moment is Don Quixote because it was not finished."

In September (05), Gilliam said he is keen for GERARD DEPARDIEU to replace fellow Frenchman JEAN ROCHEFORT in the title role.
