JOHN GIELGUD - GIELGUD'S CRUSH ON GRANT

Late thespian SIR JOHN GIELGUD idolised silver screen idol CARY GRANT - according to a new collection of letters written by the OSCAR-winning actor.

The ARTHUR star's correspondence have been published in a book entitled GIELGUD'S LETTERS, and one letter reveals Gielgud's obsession with the AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER heart-throb.

A letter written in 1960 recalls Gielgud's meeting with Grant at a showbiz party.

It reads, "Boring big party - met ETHEL MERMAN, who was very unattractive and Cary Grant, dishy as ever."

By 1963, Gielgud's crush had died, as he wrote, "Saw CHARADE today and regret to have to admit that Cary Grant really does look 59 at last."
