Eccentric actor-turned filmmaker VINCENT GALLO has vowed never to make another film - after his latest effort THE BROWN BUNNY was slated by critics at THE CANNES FILM FESTIVAL.

The BUFFALO 66 director was left distraught as the magnitude of his failure set in, amidst the most scathing reviews for a film at the festival to receive and a chorus of boos at his press conference.

He says, "I'll never make another movie again. I mean it. Being booed at was not much fun. It's really not very nice that people are so nasty. I'm very disappointed.

"It is a disaster of a film and it was a waste of time. I apologize to the financiers, but it was never my intention to make a pretentious film, a self-indulgent film, a useless film, an unengaging film.

"If my film is not comprehensible to people then I have failed in my purpose. I am disappointed that once again, what I like is unpopular. I can only apologize to the people who feel they have wasted their time."

When told that some French critics had praised his efforts, Gallo added, "that's almost like salt in the wound."
