PETER GABRIEL - GABRIEL'S CHARITY CALL TO YOUNG STARS

Veteran singer PETER GABRIEL has appealed for today's pop stars to ensure the good charity work undertaken by "senior musicians" is continued deep into the 21st Century.
The former GENESIS star felt inclined to help the under-privileged across the globe when U2 frontman BONO gave him an up-close insight into the tragedies occurring on a daily basis.
And Gabriel encourages contemporary artists to visit countries that have been torn apart by famines, war and disease - because it will inspire them to lend their help.
He says, "Human rights wasn't something I chose. I got as call from Bono to go on the 1986 Amnesty Tour, and suddenly all the abuses you read about in small columns in the paper are very real. It is inspiring.
"I've met people who've risked their lives for others. But the baton has to change hands. People get bored of senior musicians banging on."
However, in the light of the recent BAND AID 20 single DO THEY KNOW IT'S CHRISTMAS?, Gabriel is delighted younger stars are taking notice of third world crises.
He adds, "Fortunately younger artists are doing it now, too."
