Gabriel Worries About Rock's Future
Veteran singer PETER GABRIEL set up his rock label PRE because he was worried about how difficult it was for new bands to enter the music industry.
The RED RAIN star has noticed that record companies have less space to sign new acts and young rock stars are being put into the wrong genre.
He explains "One of the problems with the music business is it's very hard to get stuff racked and firms are cutting space that would have gone to world music, and for some of our acts that are rock or from "our" cultural heritage, they've always had a tough time being put in the world music section.
"So as ISLAND (record label) grew out of bluebeat and reggae to everything that led to U2, I was hoping Pre - in terms of polarity of content - could do the same."
