Veteran Hollywood star MORGAN FREEMAN is relieved to be playing a bad guy in his latest movie - because he's "bored" of portraying good characters.

The AMISTAD star says he enjoyed playing villain COLONEL ABRAHAM CURTIS in the alien-hunting horror film DREAMCATCHER.

Curtis orders the mass murder of a village who come into contact with the aliens - and Freeman relished the role.

He says, "I get all these roles where I'm this very stable and dignified and dependable gravitas leading character, and after a while I feel like I'm boring the world to death.

"Then something comes along every now and then that allows you to let your dark side shine through a little bit - and it's fun."
