LATEST: Cult Australian group the GO-BETWEENS will split for good following the Saturday (06MAY06) death of founder GRANT MCLENNAN. MCLennan reformed the group with longtime partner ROBERT FORSTER in 2000 after initially disbanding in 1989, but now Forster has decided to retire. The pair formed the acclaimed group in the mid 1970s when both were students in Queensland. In a statement, Forster says, "The Go-Betweens have made their final album. They have played their final show. We let it rest at that, being very proud of what we have done." The group's last album, THAT STRIPED SUNLIGHT SOUND, was released in January (06). The band's most recent performance came at the Sydney Festival in Australia the same month. MCLennan died from an apparent heart attack at his Brisbane home. He was 48.
