LATEST: Actors COLIN FIRTH and KEVIN BACON are upset their threesome sex scene in new film WHERE THE TRUTH LIES has earned the movie a restrictive NC-17 rating.

The pair, who play fictitious 1950s comedy duo COLLINS + MORRIS in the ATOM EGOYAN film, engage in a controversial sex scene with actress RACHEL BLANCHARD, prompting North American censors to give the project a rating that will keep film fans under 18 away from the movie.

British actor Firth admits he was surprised when the rating was handed out because the sex scene in question isn't explicit.

Speaking to the Toronto Star in Canada, he says, "I think it got NC-17 because of the discomfort factor, not because of the excess.

"The actual sex is not explicit. I've seen much, much, much more explicit sex on the shelves of Blockbuster (video/DVD store). I think there's a discomfort in the drama, which shows that the drama has been successful. And that's exactly what we were looking for."

His co-star fears the film will be a flop at the box office as a result of its restrictive rating.

He adds, "Business-wise, I think it's not so great... There's a big piece of the audience that's cut out."
