THE REAL CANCUN - FILM BOSSES PUZZLED OVER REALITY MOVIE FLOP

Movie bosses are confused by the poor box office performance of the first feature-length reality film THE REAL CANCUN.
The film, based on MTV's longrunning reality series THE REAL WORLD, is about 16 college-age students frolicking in Mexico, with scenes including sex, nudity and hard-partying.
But the antics of the youngsters failed to draw audiences out in big numbers, raking in just $2.3 million (GBP1.5 million) and landing at 10th place on its opening weekend - much less than the anticipated $8 million (GBP5.3 million).
RUSSELL SCHWARTZ, head of marketing at NEW LINE CINEMA, says, "I don't know what happened. Obviously, we were disappointed with the numbers. But we won't write the film off in its first week. We've had good screenings, and we think it will hang in there with strong word of mouth."
The figures now place question on how well AMERICAN IDOL spin-off movie FROM JUSTIN TO KELLY will do when it's released in June (03).
