PETE TOWNSHEND decided to focus all his energy on THE WHO again after the death of bassist JOHN ENTWISTLE made him realise the importance of the band's legacy. Townshend admits he only began to take The Who seriously again following Entwistle's death in 2002. He says, "It was such a shock. ROGER (DALTREY) and I looked at each other and thought, 'We really are all that's left.' "I woke up. I realised, 'We have a brand.' John died but we went with a new bass player, PINO PALLADINO, and played at the Hollywood Bowl, and nobody asked for their money back. "I realised that it wasn't really a band performing, it was a brand performing." Original drummer KEITH MOON died in 1978.
